Healthy 2010

The two little ones go back tomorrow to daycare. The three older ones go back January 4th. It’s been a long and trying Christmas holidays this year but well worth the nice togetherness of it all. I haven’t been feeling the greatest these last two days, some sort of stomach bug and it seems the kids have gotten away with not getting it at all. Lucky kids with such strong immune systems.

Me on the other hand – I’ve had a rough last bit of the year this year health wise. I’m hoping that 2010 is a little healthier for me. I’ve had since September – Strep Throat, Scarlet Fever, H1N1 Flu with pneumonia complications, sinus infections, two colds and now this tummy bug. I figure it’s because of the fibromyalgia and how it makes me immuno-compromised. They are now discovering that a retro virus that belongs in the same class and family as HIV may very well be responsible for both CFS and Fibro. It’s called XMRV and a second mini study based on the bigger one published in Oct 2009 has proven that 98% of CFS and fibro patients have this retro virus while only 2 to 3% of the control group had it (normals). They aren’t sure if it’s communicable like HIV is but I’m not sure it is either. I have 5 kids and a husband that exhibit no signs of fibro or cfs, no signs of problems though I could be one of the 2% of fibro patients without the retro virus.

This new set of studies proves Fibro and CFS are not just in the heads of the patients, that it is a legit disease and not just a psychological issue, that it is immune system issues and autonomic nervous system issues (look up substance P in the spinal cord) – It proves what we fibromites have been saying without being heard all along. We are not psycho crazy hypochondriacs who are looking for sympathy or “dear poor fibromites” reactions. We are real, we are vindicated and we were right.

So, to all of you happy and healthy 2010 – Hope it’s a good one!
